Congratulations to the Calgary Xtreme!

The 2010 Bantam A Provincial Play Smart Award winners.

After 4 hard fought contests,  the Gold Medal game brought together the best from the South and the best from the North in the Bantam A Female Provincial Final.

The Calgary Cougars came out playing a tight checking style of play in order to try to contain the tournaments top offensive team. Unfortunately these tactics led to some untimely penalties and the Fort Fury capitalized on these opportunities to score 5 power play goals. The Cougars goalie played a great game turning away 43 shots to give her team a chance. The final tally saw the host Fort Saskatchewan Fury win the Gold Medal with a resounding 11 - 1 victory in front of an appreciative crowd at the JRC.  The Fury were able to keep the tight checking Cougars at bay with a solid passing game that spread out the defenders and allowed the Fury to contine to attack.

Congratulations to both teams in a hard fought battle for the Provincial title.

Semi Final action this morning saw the Calgary Cougars edge out the Calgary Xtreme 4-3 in a game that was't decided until 6 minutes left in the 1st overtime period. Both teams played extremely well in a fast skilled contest.

In the other Semi Final the Fort Fury overpowered a tired Calgary Dino team 19 -1.

These two games sets up a classic North South game that will see the Calgary Cougars play the host Fort Fury for the Gold Medal.

After 2 days of exciting round robin action, the top two teams from Pool A and Pool B advance to the semi-finals Sunday morning.  Calgary Cougars will play Calgary Xtreme at the Jubilee Rec Centre and Calgary Dinos will play the Fort Saskatchewan Fury at the Sportsplex in the cross over match.  Hope all girls enjoyed their Provincial experience in Fort Saskatchewan and Good Luck to the teams playing Sunday.
